  • BIRMINGHAM VIVA VEGAN FESTIVAL 2016 VLOG + DR MICHAEL GREGER!

A Vlog of Birmingham VIVA vegan festival + Dr Michael Greger Afterparty! If you care about the future of Earth then you should consider veganism. Buying local & organic food, recycling, using public transport/cycling and supporting renewable energy are all worthy things to do but come secondary to the environmental impact of products from the meat and dairy industry, which are now so easy to boycott. By going vegan you also stop contributing to needless animal misery and suffering. With minimal effort you can get your vegan diet extremely tasty and well balanced and be stronger, more energetic and more resistant to disease. Go vegan: Save 1,100 gallons of water, 20 pounds CO2, 30 sq ft of forested land, 45 pounds of grain and one animal every day + live healthier and longer!

Why do lion trophy hunters make the news when millions of farm animals are murdered every day? 2) The environmental impact of animal agriculture is proven to be larger than any other industry. By going vegan I have reduced my carbon footprint more than giving up a car, or not having electricity! 3) The latest nutrition science has proven meat, dairy and eggs are directly linked to many diseases and cancers which I really want to avoid getting! Going vegan also made me stronger and more energetic and meant I explored food and cooking in more depth allowing me to reach new levels of taste bud satisfaction! I have never eaten meat and consumed a very low amount of dairy growing up which has caused me to have chronic protein and calcium deficiency syndrome. This means I only grew as tall as 190cm and to a body mass of 85kg ;-) My diet follows Dr Michael Greger’s recommendations as closely as possible: http://nutritionfacts.org/2011/09/12/dr-gregers-2011-optimum-nutrition-recommendations/ I get my selenium, iodine, vitamin D and vitamin B12 RDAs from the Vegan Society Veg1 chewable multivitamin tablet available online from The Vegan Society and Amazon and at various vegan shops. I get my marine algae-derived DHA and EPA RDAs from Cytoplan OMEGA 3 VEGAN capsules. The need for these is driven more by soil-mineral depletion, modern day sanitation and living in the northern hemisphere than it is from my boycott of animal products. I am concerned about the stigma surrounding supplements and the stubborn refusal from some vegans to take them. Sure, I get a fair amount of sunlight, drink fortified soya milk and regularly consume pink Himalayan salt, milled flaxseed and walnuts, but for the very low cost and practicality of supplements, isn’t it better to be safe than sorry? 4) The vegan community is full of beautiful, lovely women. I am one of the admins for the Facebook group BIRMINGHAM VEGANS and we host vegan social events on average once a week, usually in Birmingham City Centre. https://www.facebook.com/groups/birminghamvegans Our group ethos is to welcome the vegan-curious at the same time as encouraging the transition to full veganism in as positive a way as possible. The group is an amazing vegan community with over 2100 members, growing at a rate of about 7 new members a day. Our Group is sponsored by the Vegan ShopNatural Healthy Foods’ round the corner from Selfridges/Moor Street Station. I am also a Local Contact for the Vegan Society for the Birmingham Area. Get in touch if you need any vegan help and support.
